This project uses the KILOGAS survey to investigate how galaxies evolve by examining the relationships between molecular gas, star formation, and black hole activity. KILOGAS is one of the largest surveys of nearby galaxies conducted with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), one of the world's most powerful radio telescope observatories. Located high in Chile's Atacama Desert at an altitude of about 5,000 meters (16,400 feet), ALMA is funded through an international partnership that includes the National Science Foundation as a major partner. By analyzing 500 galaxies, the researchers aim to better understand the processes that drive or suppress star formation and to improve the physical models used in cosmological simulations of galaxy evolution. The results will help test fundamental theories of star formation, explain key galaxy scaling relations, and provide benchmarks for creating more realistic galaxy simulations. The project also inc...
